Kibosho Village
On Thursday, Kelly and I headed to Kibosho, a village ouside of Moshi, with an OT from the clinic and 3 community health workers. The staff at CCBRT makes frequent visits into various villages to check up on children that do not have the means to make it to the clinic. We did follow ups at 5 different homes and saw kids with varying conditions such as down's syndrome, CP, hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and epilepsy. It was shocking and eye opening to see the houses and living conditions of the people in the village. The homes were made of sticks and dried mud, the floors of the homes were dirt, and it appeared that the people lived off their animals (mostly goats and chickens) and the fruit from the abundance of trees. There were banana, mango and avocado trees as far as the eyes could see. Although the living conditions were less than ideal, the surrounding area was beautiful. The luscious, green forests were a nice change from the busy town.

This makes me realize how important the Heifer project is. Love how the program just keeps multiplying - by giving forward. Good pics, honey.
ReplyDeleteMackenzie's class raised money for the Heifer project. I can't wait to read her your blog and show her the pics. Very humbling to hear how they live :)
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify, CCBRT started their own Heifer project that benefit families with children with disabilities. So I am not sure how it is related to the Heifer project we have all heard about in the states. But still an amazing project!!
ReplyDeleteYou are the coolest :)
